Genie’s Retreat
An intricately pierced geometric Arabic lamp rests upon rich red cloth within the darkness of a blue wooden box. Inspired by the mystery and ornament of Middle Eastern objects, the painting uses dramatic light, deep shadow and trompe l’œil perspective to suggest something precious, secretive and perhaps faintly magical hidden within.
Inspired by my love of all things Arabic and of moorish style, this small life size trompe l’oeil painting is one of my ‘In a Box’ series. However, this one is unusual as it does not have my usual signature animal incorporated. I thought the beauty of the pot was enough, especially when you consider what lies within (i.e. the Genie!). A few from my In a Box series would be a perfect addition to every home.
