In this trompe l’oeil still life from Lucinda’s “In a Box” series, two playful young mice are exploring a small box filled with an array of old books. One of the books is entitled “The Young Stowaways” as a reference to the mice. Every element is painted directly onto reclaimed wood, carefully prepared and cut to size. The artist sources her panels from antique furniture, often more than a century old, salvaging and repurposing materials that might otherwise be discarded. In doing so, she creates sustainable works of art that carry the history of the wood forward—ensuring each piece is built to endure for another hundred years or more.
