A private commission of two sparrows encountering one another among time-worn books bearing Caesar’s famous words, Veni, Vidi, Vici — I came, I saw, I conquered. The arrival of the second bird transforms the familiar phrase into a playful narrative, while the old books, pipe and dark wooden setting evoke the tradition of classical trompe l’œil still life.
